The four of us could not fault the ambiance, the service, the presentation or the quality of food we experienced last September whilst celebrating two birthdays. We spent a great deal of money on both the meal and lovely wines. However, even after canapes and three courses, the portion sizes were so small that we all went home still feeling hungry. For this reason only we agreed we would not return.

A superb experience for that special occasion. The taster menu, whilst you may not wish to pay £55 per head for too many meals, is a wonderful blend of textures and tastes and well worth it. Nicely friendly staff, lovely ambience and beautifully furnished; we didn't stay but we imagine the rooms are wonderful too. Gripes: nothing much. Samphire must be just right otherwise there is a tough core and we found a few tough pieces. And a sharp or serrated knife is really needed for the crusted belly of pork. So nothing to mar the evening. Superb and do leave room for dessert - sublime! And go by taxi, we didn't and I had to restrict myself to just a glass of a fresh, fruity and delightful Sauvignon. Oh and great, smooth, gentle music too, at just the right level.

FANTASTIC!!! Great restaurant with excellent service. The wine may be a little pricey for some, but personally well worth it. Philip and Janice have do wonders with both the hotel and now the restaurant. The changes they have made to the style of menu and the service since I last went three years ago have resulted in one of the finest restaurants in the north of England.
