THE ROBINSONS ARE BACK AT THE “CHURCH”

Julie Robinson is a rarity among pub landladies.

She is among the few to have held two separate licences … for the same pub.

For the Robinson family is now back at the Church House Inn at Bollington - eight years after leaving for Spain.

They had been at the ‘Church’ for 11 years and the inn went on to hit press headlines when it was then taken over by a group of local residents.

“It’s a great, award-winning community pub with a lovely ‘olde worlde’ feel, open fires and friendly atmosphere,” says Julie.

“When we came back to the UK we re-opened the Rock Tavern at Marple Bridge and had been there for two years when we heard that the Church House Inn was coming up for sale. So we jumped at the chance to buy it back.

“Now we seem to have joined the small number of landlords ever to hold two licences for the same place. But the main thing is … it’s great to be back and especially to be joined by several of the staff we had before.”

The 19th century stone-built hostelry in Church Street has five ensuite bedrooms - which have helped to build its reputation for food, drink, bed and breakfast at the heart of the old mill village on the edge of the Peak District National Park.

The Robinsons are now planning a major refurbishment for the New Year. An overhaul of the restaurant menu has already started – with home-cooked dishes using top quality local produce from a local baker, butcher and surrounding farmers.

“Bollington is awash with pubs – nearly 20 of them in the area – but the Church House Inn has to stand out … and it does,” says Julie.

The traditional stone-built Church House Inn, on the edge of the Peak District, dates from Bollington's origins as a cotton mill village.

Now it offers accommodation, food and drink with a warm welcome for business or pleasure, corporate or personal, to drinkers and diners who enjoy olde worlde open fires with crackling logs and lively conversation in a cosy bar.

At lunchtime or evening, from la carte to weekly specials, a selection of great dishes and local classics use the best locally sourced ingredients.

We serve our food from 1200-1400/1800-2100 Monday through Saturday and from 1200-2000 on Sundays.

Theres a great choice of beers - including lagers, stouts and traditional real ales - or an excellent wine list, a fine selection of malt whiskies and other spirits and liqueurs. Something for every taste and everything stored and kept in perfect condition.
